Grizzly Youth Academy gives youth aged 16-18 who have dropped out of high school, or are at-risk of dropping out, a proven opportunity to turn their lives around. There is no cost to families.

The program is voluntary. Prospective cadets must be prepared to complete 5 1/2 months in residence, followed by a 12-month post-residential period.

Grizzly Academy is a partnership between the California National Guard and the Grizzly Challenge Charter School. We provide a safe haven where student-cadets can learn and grow in a highly structured and disciplined environment.

During the residential phase, cadets develop essential skills and increase the potential for completing the full program with confidence. They may earn up to 60 credits toward a high school diploma.

Every cadet creates an action plan for their continued success after graduation. These action plans encompass a student’s short term and long term goals for education, career, and living situation, to ensure a successful transition from Grizzly Youth Academy.

During the post-residential phase, cadets further strengthen the skills and habits developed during the residential phase. They stay in regular contact with their mentor and Case Manager, strengthening the awareness to continue making positive choices for their future.
